## Key points

- Jack Bayles has been asked to step back from Various Artists.
- He has been dropped temporarily from BBC and Apple TV projects.
- Russell Brand was convicted of rape and three sexual assaults.

## Summary

Jack Bayles, a British comedy producer, has been asked to step back from his company, Various Artists Limited, and has temporarily been dropped from several BBC and Apple TV projects. The move follows testimony that he and another producer watched while a woman massaged Russell Brand, then laughed after she made a remark; Brand was found guilty of sexually assaulting her.

Bayles said he was appalled by Brand’s actions but could not recall the 2009 incident, and apologised for failing to recognise any distress. He said the work environment was pressured and toxic, that he stopped working with Brand in 2010, and that no complaints about Brand were made to him. Brand was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault, and not guilty on two other rape counts and one attempted indecent assault count.
