A 58-year-old British man has died after being found floating in the sea at Pintadinho Beach, near Ferragudo in Portugal’s Algarve. Lifeguards brought him ashore and began CPR, but paramedics could not revive him; the circumstances remain unclear and there is no indication of criminal involvement.

The alarm was raised at about 9.19am on Wednesday after a member of the public reported seeing a body in the water. Police, medical teams, firefighters and the Judicial Police attended, while a post-mortem will establish whether the man drowned or suffered a medical problem; psychologists are supporting his family. The incident followed the separate death of a 64-year-old Irish holidaymaker at nearby Prainha Beach.
