Nepali rescuers have found a British man alive nearly a week after devastating flash floods struck Nepal, killing more than 1,050 people and leaving over 4,000 still missing. The floods surged across the Nepal-Tibet border on 26 August, sweeping away homes, roads and bridges, with 16 further deaths confirmed in Tibet. The disaster has severely hampered rescue operations, as landslides and destroyed infrastructure have cut off remote communities in both countries.

Search teams, aided by dogs, continue combing through mud and debris, with fears the death toll will rise as isolated areas are reached; at least 11,814 people have been rescued so far. Around 900 workers remain missing from 12 hydropower projects, with roughly 500 believed trapped in tunnels, while authorities in Kathmandu are burying unidentified bodies in temporary, numbered graves and preserving DNA and photographic records for later identification. China has sent a second batch of relief supplies, including drones, DNA-testing equipment and water purifiers, and is assisting Nepal with body identification.
