Owain Davies, a 55-year-old British millionaire and engineering businessman, died in a plane crash in the Swiss Alps on Tuesday along with two friends. The Cirrus SR22T aircraft crashed near the resort of Leukerbad in Valais, Switzerland, approximately ten minutes after taking off from Sion airport, with two of the three fatalities being British nationals.

Davies led Amcanu, an engineering firm based in Burry Port, South Wales, which his father founded in 1975 and which he took over in 2000. An experienced pilot with a passion for aviation, Davies was travelling as a passenger at the time of the crash; the cause remains unknown and is under investigation by the Swiss Transportation Safety Board, Valais Police and the Office of the Attorney General. Davies was a father-of-two, a Welsh speaker, trustee of Wales Air Ambulance Charity since 2017, and had served as a helmsman with Burry Port Lifeboat for nearly 25 years.
