British nurse missing in Nepal was on Hindu pilgrimage to sacred mountain – as devastated families search for loved ones in aftermath of flood
A British nurse, Sarada Simkhada, is among at least 33 UK nationals reported missing after severe flash floods near the Nepal–China border. She had travelled from Dartford on a Hindu pilgrimage towards Mount Kailash, and her family last heard from her the day before the flooding; the incident has prompted urgent searches by relatives and rescue teams.
The floods, described as a possible glacial-collapse event, have reportedly killed at least 362 people and left around 1,500 missing, including many tourists. Other missing Britons include two children, a woman from Slough visiting the Himalayas, and Nabhi Das from Streatham; Leena Bector’s husband plans to travel to Nepal to help search for her.
