British rapper Yung Filly to face retrial on rape charges in Australia
British rapper and YouTuber Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, will face a retrial on three rape charges in Australia after a jury failed to reach a verdict on those counts. The case matters because it involves a high-profile British social media personality accused of assaulting a fan following a performance at a Perth nightclub, and the mixed verdict means the legal process will now continue with fresh proceedings on the unresolved charges.
The 31-year-old had denied all 10 charges brought against him. Last month, a jury acquitted him of three counts of sexual penetration without consent, one assault charge and a strangulation charge, but convicted him of two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, for which he will be sentenced after the retrial. The court heard he had consensual sex with a 20-year-old fan in his hotel room in 2024 before she alleged he became violent and ignored her requests to stop. Barrientos is due back in court on 27 August for a bail variation application, though no retrial date has yet been set.
