David Sharaz, the husband of former political staffer Brittany Higgins, has reportedly been banned from Australia's National Press Club after the campaign group he works for, GetUp!, disrupted a speech by One Nation leader Pauline Hanson. The incident matters because it has drawn a police investigation and threats of legal action, and highlights tensions over political protest at a venue traditionally reserved for formal public addresses.

During Hanson's address on 17 June, a projector screen dropped behind her displaying a banner accusing her of opposing a pay rise for workers while accepting a $100,000 pay rise herself, after which GetUp! publicly claimed responsibility. NPC chief executive Maurice Reilly said he had declined Sharaz's membership application and that Sharaz, GetUp!'s media and campaigns lead, was "not welcome" at future events. The Australian Federal Police investigation is continuing, damage costs are being assessed, and the club is considering its legal position, though the Daily Mail understands no formal decision has yet been communicated to Sharaz or GetUp!.
