Broadway had a strong week, with several long-running and closing shows posting their highest-ever grosses as summer crowds boosted attendance. Ragtime broke its own house record at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, while Cats: The Jellicle Ball and Joe Turner's Come and Gone also hit record takings, the latter during its final performances, reflecting a common late-run surge as productions approach closure.

Ragtime brought in $1.625 million last week, the highest gross ever for Lincoln Center Theater, with an average ticket price of $192.95 (second only to Hamilton) and 100 percent capacity, ahead of its 16 August closure. Cats: The Jellicle Ball took close to $1.2 million with prices up to $126.55 and capacity above 100 percent before its 8 August closing, while Joe Turner's Come and Gone, starring Taraji P. Henson and Cedric the Entertainer, also earned close to $1.2 million at 99 percent capacity before ending its run on 26 July. Overall, industry grosses rose 12.5 percent and attendance rose 7 percent week-on-week, with The Lion King topping the charts at $2.4 million, followed by Hamilton ($2.3 million), Death of a Salesman ($2.2 million), MJ ($1.9 million) and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child ($1.89 million).
