## Key points

- Campbell says new directors bring fresh approaches to *Evil Dead*.
- He says less experienced filmmakers may listen more to producers.
- Different styles help keep the franchise unpredictable.

## Summary

Bruce Campbell says the *Evil Dead* films keep hiring new directors because they bring distinct creative approaches, helping the franchise stay unpredictable. He says newer filmmakers tend to listen more closely to producers, while established directors may be more willing to reject their advice.

Campbell points to Lee Cronin’s Irish background and Sébastien Vaniček’s French background as shaping what he calls their “European sensibilities”, including less emphasis on explosions, knife fights and large action scenes. The newer films range from Fede Álvarez’s brutal story of Mia and her friends to *Evil Dead Rise* and *Evil Dead Burn*, each finding a different kind of horror without simply repeating Ash’s story.
