A poll suggests enthusiasm among Californians for potential 2028 presidential campaigns by Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris has fallen sharply. Just 37% of registered voters said they would be excited by a Newsom campaign, down from 48% in March, while Harris fell to 28% from 41%. The results indicate weakening support for both politicians, although Newsom remains considerably more popular among Democratic voters.

Among Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters, 61% said they would be excited about Newsom running, compared with 39% who would not; Harris had 55% who would not be excited. Forty-nine per cent believed Newsom would be more likely to win the Democratic nomination, compared with 10% for Harris, while 59% considered him more likely to win a general election, against 9% for Harris. Newsom has said he would not run if Harris entered the race, while Harris has kept open the possibility of another campaign.
