Bryan Kohberger, who pleaded guilty last year to murdering four University of Idaho students, is attempting to withdraw his guilty pleas, with his new lawyer suggesting there is more to the case than the public knows. Kohberger has also filed a motion to have Judge Steven Hippler removed from the case, arguing that the same judge should not rule on the constitutional questions raised by his bid to reverse his plea. Kohberger, 31, admitted stabbing to death Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Ethan Chapin, 20, and Xana Kernodle, 20, at their off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho, in November 2022, and was sentenced to four life terms. His new attorney, Jason Goldman, said "serious questions" remain about how the case reached its current stage, while Kohberger has separately claimed his plea was secured through "false promises and blatant disinformation" from his previous legal team, who he says failed to disclose evidence that might have helped him. Judge Hippler has not granted an immediate hearing but has scheduled a status conference for next June, ordering both sides to disclose witnesses by early February and warning of possible sanctions for non-compliance.
