- Khan and Labour figures welcomed the Republicans’ midterm losses.
- Burnham urged leaders to resolve the Iran conflict.
- He linked global conflicts to cost-of-living pressures.

## Summary

The article adds reaction from London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Labour and Liberal Democrat MPs, who welcomed the US midterm results as a setback for Donald Trump. Andy Burnham said the outcome could give world leaders an opportunity to focus on the cost of living and work towards resolving the Iran conflict.

Democrats won both chambers of Congress, leaving Trump’s Republicans with a minority for his final two years in office. Burnham called for de-escalation and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and said the Iran conflict and Russia’s war in Ukraine were contributing to household cost pressures. Khan described the result as a rejection of Trump’s politics, while some Labour figures said it reflected opposition to his immigration policies.
