Ian Griffin, 57, who was previously convicted of murdering his heiress fiancée Kinga Legg in a Paris hotel, has been jailed again after a "degrading and gratuitous" assault on his 83-year-old father. The case highlights how leniently Griffin was treated for the original murder — he served only 22 months of a 14-year French sentence before being released and returning to live with his elderly parents near Warrington, where he went on to commit further violence.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that Griffin attacked his father Bernard after drinking at a local pub in May 2025, punching and dragging him to the floor and stamping on his legs over 30 to 60 minutes, only stopping after forcing his father to sign over half his earnings to Griffin's mother. Bodycam and mobile phone footage captured Bernard with a bloodied face telling officers his son "would have killed me", while separate footage showed Griffin screaming abuse and threats at his father. Police had also been called the previous day over threats Griffin made to neighbours. He pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and threats to destroy property, and was sentenced to four years in prison.
