Former Major League Baseball player Butch Huskey has died aged 54. He was among the final players to wear number 42 before MLB retired it across the league in honour of Jackie Robinson, making his death notable in baseball history.

Huskey began wearing number 42 in 1995 after initially using number 10 with the New York Mets. MLB retired Robinson’s number league-wide two years later, recognising Robinson’s role in breaking baseball’s modern-era colour barrier in 1947.
