Bystander video shows teen lifeguard’s dramatic ocean rescue

BBC World · 3 hours ago

A bystander's video has captured 16-year-old rookie lifeguard Ryder Williams rescuing a 10-year-old boy who had been swept out to sea at Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz, California. The footage shows the dramatic moment of the rescue, which has since drawn national attention, including recognition from the White House.

The boy had drifted roughly 15 yards from shore before Williams reached him, with several beachgoers also helping in the effort, which took just over two minutes in total. President Donald Trump has invited Williams to the White House to receive a high civilian honour in recognition of his actions.
