Cajun Navy leader warns Nolan Wells’ search area has deadly ‘washing machine’ currents: ‘Lots of drownings’
A United Cajun Navy leader involved in the search for 18-year-old Nolan Wells warned that the waters near where the teenager was found are known locally for dangerous, unpredictable “washing machine” currents. The warning highlights the risks faced by people in the area and suggests that difficult water conditions may be relevant to understanding Wells’s disappearance.
Wells disappeared on 4 July after taking a boat trip with friends. Brian Trascher, the organisation’s vice-president, said the conditions that day were far from ideal and that the area has seen numerous drownings because of its strong currents.
