Camilo Séptimo Keyboardist Jonathan Meléndez & His Family Found Dead in Mexico

Billboard · 4 hours ago

Jonathan Meléndez, keyboardist for the Mexican band Camilo Séptimo, was found murdered alongside three family members at his apartment in Atizapán de Zaragoza, near Mexico City, prosecutors announced on 2 September. The killings have shocked Mexico's music scene, as Meléndez had been a founding member of the band since 2013 and was central to shaping its synth-pop sound.

Officials said municipal police discovered four bodies on Tuesday, including Meléndez, his pregnant wife, their three-year-old daughter and a 21-year-old woman; a six-year-old child and the family dog, which had been tied up, were found unharmed. Mexico's Secretary of Public Security, Omar García Harfuch, said two men had been arrested, with one suspect reportedly a business associate of a victim who used that trust to gain access to the property. Camilo Séptimo, known for albums such as Navegantes and Ecos and a 2022 MTV Miaw Awards nomination, had performed alongside acts including Kings of Leon and Belle and Sebastian.
