## Key points

- Bryan Adams’ new album focuses on Canada.
- He says US audiences gave “51st State” standing ovations.
- *How’s It Goin’* is due on 6 November.

## Summary

Bryan Adams says his recent songs address strained relations between Canada and the United States, including tariffs and repeated talk of Canada becoming the “51st state”. His forthcoming album, *How’s It Goin’*, turns those concerns into a collection of songs about Canada, marking a more politically pointed direction for the rock musician.

Adams says the album grew from a song commissioned for a documentary about Canada’s East Coast, then expanded into a concept album written and recorded in three months. It includes “51st State” and “Lake Ontario”; Adams reports that “51st State” received standing ovations at its debut in St Louis and at shows in Texas. The 12-track album is due out on 6 November.
