## Key points

- Carrick gave a 5min 27sec speech on United’s values.
- He says he can turn the team’s form around.
- United have won two of 11 games and are 13th.

## Summary

Manchester United coach Michael Carrick delivered an unsolicited 5min 27sec speech about humility, resilience and the club’s history, amid a poor run of results and scrutiny of his leadership. He said he believed he could turn the season around and described taking responsibility as being willing to get wet while holding an umbrella for others.

Carrick’s remarks followed Bruno Fernandes’s criticism of his tactics after United’s 4-1 Champions League defeat by Como, and earlier criticism of recruitment by Lisandro Martínez. He did not rule out dropping Fernandes or removing him as captain before Sunday’s match against Bournemouth, saying the team’s interests came first. United have won two of their 11 games and sit 13th in the Premier League.
