Carrick disputes Cunha’s claim that Manchester United lacked energy in Fulham draw
Michael Carrick rejected Matheus Cunha’s criticism that Manchester United lacked energy during their 1-1 draw at Fulham. Although Fulham ran 6.6km further and dominated the early second half, Carrick praised United’s response after Lisandro Martínez’s own goal and their persistence in securing a late equaliser.
Cunha scored in the 89th minute when his long-range effort deflected off David Affengruber, cancelling out Martínez’s 63rd-minute own goal. The result followed defeats by Manchester City and Brighton, while some supporters booed Carrick’s decision to substitute Kobbie Mainoo; Fulham manager Álvaro Arbeloa also criticised the officials.
