## Key points

- Carrick says United must rediscover their identity after seven winless games.
- He refuses to rule out dropping captain Bruno Fernandes.
- Fernandes keeps the captaincy after criticising the club and tactics.

## Summary

Michael Carrick gave an unusually long, emotional address as he faces pressure after Manchester United’s run of seven matches without a win. He called the 4-1 defeat by Como unacceptable and said the team had lost sight of the identity and values supporters should expect.

Carrick would not rule out dropping captain Bruno Fernandes for Sunday’s match against Bournemouth, saying the team and club came first. Fernandes had criticised the club’s focus on its past and Carrick’s tactics; the club said he would keep the captaincy and would not be fined. Carrick said the dressing room was not divided and that the club was supporting Fernandes and his family after their home was burgled.
