## Key points

- United are winless in eight matches.
- Carrick says tough conversations are needed to improve.
- He backs his players after supporters booed them.

## Summary

Michael Carrick says he has had frank, sometimes difficult conversations with Manchester United’s players and senior club figures as he tries to reverse a poor run of form. United have gone eight matches without a win and are 16th in the league, leaving Carrick under pressure ahead of Saturday’s game at Chelsea.

After a 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth, supporters applauded Carrick but booed the players, whose effort had been questioned. Carrick said the squad were hurting but eager to improve, and stressed that he and the players remained united with the club’s supporters. He also dismissed Gary Neville’s claims that some players lacked professionalism, joking that Neville “says a lot of things”.
