Casey Bloys on HBO’s Huge Emmy Noms Haul, ‘The Pitt’ Dominance, Whether He Has ‘Heated Rivalry’ Regrets and His Own Future Post-Merger

Variety · 2 hours ago

HBO's content chief Casey Bloys spoke to Variety after the platform led the 2026 Emmy nominations with an industry-topping 122 nods, driven by strong showings for the drama "The Pitt" and the comedy "Hacks". The haul marks a high point in Bloys's decade running HBO, but it arrives amid uncertainty, as the pending acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance leaves questions over HBO's future direction and whether Bloys himself will remain in charge.

Bloys praised "The Pitt", which nearly doubled its nominations from the previous year and has been embraced as a boost to Los Angeles production, and "Hacks", which set a record for the most comedy nominations as it bows out after five seasons. He also highlighted the surprise success of the original series "DTF St. Louis", expressed mild disappointment that "Half Man" secured only one nomination, and addressed the Canadian production "Heated Rivalry", saying HBO could not produce it owing to local rules but is pleased to carry it and awaits a second season. He confirmed early talks with the "Hacks" creators about their next project.
