## Key points

- *The Phantom* is back on streaming.
- Billy Zane plays the inherited superhero Kit Walker.
- Catherine Zeta-Jones stars as villain Sala.

## Summary

Billy Zane’s 1996 adventure film *The Phantom* has returned to streaming, offering viewers a chance to revisit a colourful, campy superhero story. The film stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as villain Sala and is presented as an entertaining alternative for fans of *The Mummy* and *Indiana Jones*.

Based on Lee Falk’s comic strip, which debuted in 1936, the film follows Kit Walker, one in a line of crime fighters who inherit the Phantom identity. Kristy Swanson, Treat Williams and James Remar also star; the story features swashbuckling action, practical stunts and trained wolves, alongside computer effects that have aged less well. Though it was not a major success on release, the article argues that the film has gained charm over time.
