The US National Transportation Safety Board has published its final report into the 2024 Wyoming plane crash that killed three members of the Grammy-nominated gospel group The Nelons, along with four other people. The report, obtained by Atlanta broadcaster WSB, attributes the crash to a combination of weather conditions and pilot distraction, shedding light on the final moments before the aircraft went down. The findings bring closure of sorts to the group's surviving members and fans, more than a year after the tragedy.

The pilot, former Georgia Department of Corrections Board Chairman Larry Haynie, reportedly became distracted after the autopilot disengaged when the plane hit an updraft caused by convective activity, causing him to lose control. Those killed included Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark and Kelly's daughter Amber Nelon Kistler, three of the four Nelons members, as well as Amber's husband Nathan Kistler, the group's assistant Melodi Hodges, Haynie and his wife Melissa. The party had been travelling to perform on the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska. The band's fourth member, Autumn Nelon Streetman, who was not aboard, has since vowed to continue the family's musical legacy, which began in 1977.
