Celtic report £4.8m loss as revenue drops by 22.7%

BBC Sport · 50 minutes ago

Celtic Football Club has reported a £4.8m loss after tax for the year ending June 30, a dramatic reversal from the previous year's £33.9m profit. The loss is primarily attributed to the club's failure to qualify for the Champions League, which cost them substantial broadcast and competition revenue. Despite significant managerial upheaval and a turbulent season, Celtic ultimately delivered a domestic league and Scottish Cup double under Martin O'Neill's leadership following the departures of Brendan Rodgers and Wilfried Nancy.

Revenue fell by 22.7% to £111m from the previous year's £143.6m, though the club maintains a healthy cash reserve of £66.4m. Celtic invested £31.6m in summer signings, including Kasper Hogh, Camilo Duran and Joel van den Berg, whilst securing four additional loan deals. The season was marked by significant upheaval: Brendan Rodgers departed unexpectedly, Wilfried Nancy was sacked after eight games, and chairman Peter Lawwell retired in December citing abuse and threats.
