Dexter Mole, a 15-year-old champion boxer, suffered a serious brain bleed minutes after winning a bout on 11 September at Ashton Masonic Hall in Ashton-under-Lyne. He collapsed shortly after the fight, requiring emergency surgery and intensive care, and though he is now stable and breathing independently, he remains unconscious with uncertain long-term prospects. His injury raises significant questions about boxer safety, particularly for young athletes, and may end his competitive career despite his promising record.

Medical staff assessed Dexter as standard practice following the bout, but within minutes he fell to the ground displaying signs consistent with a brain bleed. Paramedics arrived promptly and he underwent two hours of emergency surgery before being placed on a ventilator in intensive care. According to his brother Morgan, Dexter is now showing signs of recovery—squeezing hands and responding to voices—though he has not regained consciousness. Doctors remain uncertain whether the bleed resulted from accumulated trauma or an underlying condition. His family has been supported by Ronald McDonald House, a charity providing accommodation for families of hospitalised children, whilst England Boxing has not yet responded to enquiries about whether an investigation is underway.
