Two medical emergencies, including one involving a critically ill seven-year-old child, forced Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas to reverse course and divert to Nassau in the Bahamas whilst en route to New Jersey. The dramatic detour has created significant travel disruption for thousands of passengers both aboard the 226,000-ton vessel and those scheduled to board for the next sailing, affecting flights, hotel bookings and onward travel arrangements.

The ship was approximately 120 miles northeast of Nassau when it reversed course to transport the two critically ill passengers ashore for urgent medical care. Current passengers now face an eight-hour delay to their arrival in New Jersey, with debarkation expected around 2:30pm on Sunday rather than the planned 6am. The following cruise, scheduled to depart on Sunday, has been delayed by up to eight hours with an entire stop at Port Canaveral, Florida cancelled. Royal Caribbean is providing affected passengers with 60 minutes of complimentary internet access and up to $400 compensation per passenger to help offset flight change fees and other arrangements.
