Charities remain locked out of CAF Bank online accounts

The Register · 4 hours ago

CAF Bank’s online banking service has remained unavailable for a week, leaving 14,000 UK charity customers without a restoration date. The disruption is affecting payments to staff and suppliers, highlighting the operational risks charities face when essential banking systems fail.

The bank says it suspended access after detecting attempted fraud and finding an unknown vulnerability involving third-party software connections. CAF Bank says its core banking system is unaffected and is working with suppliers and external experts, but it will not restore online access until it considers the service safe; it held £1.45 billion in customer deposits at the end of 2024/25.

  • CAF Bank customers remain locked out after a week.
  • 14,000 charities have no restoration timetable.
