Charley Crockett’s Belated Beef With Jack White Escalates On Day 2

Stereogum · 3 hours ago

Country singer Charley Crockett has escalated a public feud with Jack White, responding to the White Stripes frontman with a lengthy Instagram post defending his career, political credibility and integrity. The row began last month when Crockett faced criticism for dropping Satanic-themed duo Twin Temple from his shows, a decision he denies was linked to their imagery; White subsequently booked Twin Temple to open one of his own Los Angeles shows next month, prompting Crockett to accuse White of political inconsistency and losing his respect.

White fired back on Instagram with a sardonic dismissal, quoting the lyrics to Shawn Brown's 1984 novelty rap "Rappin' Duke" rather than addressing Crockett directly. Crockett, 42, responded on day two by rejecting the "young buck" label, citing his prolific output of roughly 300 released and 150 unreleased songs, accusing White, 51, of hypocrisy over his wealth and lifestyle despite claimed radical sympathies, and insisting the Twin Temple saga stemmed from others lying for publicity at his expense. Twin Temple's new album, Doomed Lovers, produced by Shooter Jennings, is due out in October.
