OpenAI has launched “Health in ChatGPT”, allowing eligible users to connect Apple Health data and supported medical records so the chatbot can give more personalised health-related responses. The rollout matters because it expands ChatGPT’s role in sensitive medical conversations while renewing concerns about whether users may rely on advice from a system that can make errors and is not intended to diagnose or treat illness.

Users may choose to share information such as medications, lab results, recent appointments, sleep and activity data; OpenAI says this data will not train its foundation models or be used for advertising. The launch came a day after a Florida man sued OpenAI, alleging ChatGPT’s reassurance discouraged him from seeking care for a worsening pulmonary embolism; OpenAI says its terms warn against using the tool for medical diagnosis or treatment and says it tested the feature with hundreds of physicians.
