Billboard · 2 months ago

Disney has confirmed that a fourth film in its Cheetah Girls franchise is officially in development, with the news announced on Wednesday 8 July. Titled The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen, the project marks the return of original stars Raven-Symoné and Adrienne Bailon, reprising their roles as Galleria and Chanel, and is significant as it revives a franchise whose films and soundtracks were a major commercial success for Disney in the 2000s.

Several other original cast members are set to return, including Sabrina Bryan in a special appearance as Dorinda, and Lynn Whitfield and Lori Alter as Dorothea and Juanita; Kiely Williams, who played Aqua, is not currently involved. The story follows Galleria and Chanel, along with Galleria's daughter Faith and her three friends, as they travel to Africa to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary and ultimately emerge as the new Cheetah Girls. The new band of younger performers includes Percy Jackson and the Olympians star Leah Sava' Jeffries, Carmen Sanchez, Kaileen Chang and Sophie Lennon. The original 2003 film and its 2006 sequel were notable chart successes, with Cheetah Girls 2 spending nine weeks at No. 1 on Top Soundtracks.
