Chelsea have given interested clubs until 17:00 BST on Friday to make an offer of at least £120m for Enzo Fernandez, seeking to resolve uncertainty over the midfielder’s future before the new season. The deadline matters because Chelsea intend either to secure a sale at their valuation or fully reintegrate the Argentina international as a key player under new manager Xabi Alonso.

Fernandez first raised the prospect of joining Real Madrid in March, while his agent said he was underpaid and wanted to leave after Chelsea’s disappointing season. Real Madrid have ruled out a move, leaving Manchester City as the only known possible bidder, although they are also pursuing Lille midfielder Ayoub Bouaddi; Chelsea paid £107m for Fernandez in 2023, and he recorded 15 goals and seven assists in 54 appearances last season.
