## Key points

- Chicago Sky respond to planned pro-Cunningham rally before Fever game
- Fourth such rally follows Seattle, Portland and Minneapolis events
- Fifth rally already set for New York on 22 August

## Summary

The Chicago Sky have issued a statement ahead of a rally planned outside the United Center on Saturday, held in support of Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham before the Sky host the Fever. The demonstration is the latest in a series backing Cunningham after she spoke out last month in an ESPN article in favour of restricting transgender women from women's sports, a stance that has made Fever away games a recurring focal point in the wider debate over transgender participation in the WNBA.

The Sky said they remain "focused on basketball" and expect fans to follow standard arena safety, security and conduct policies. Saturday's event will be the fourth Cunningham rally, following earlier ones in Seattle, Portland and Minneapolis, with a fifth already scheduled in New York on 22 August before the Fever face the Liberty. The issue has gained further attention recently, with four WNBA head coaches facing scrutiny over comments on the topic and former NBA player Enes Kanter-Freedom announcing his intention to enter the 2027 WNBA draft. The Seattle rally previously led to disciplinary action against Storm co-owner Celeste Keaton over an alleged incident with two teenage supporters.
