- Brent crude rose 2.68 per cent to $111.74 a barrel.

## Summary

US intelligence has warned that Iran’s alleged plots to kill American officials have reached an “advanced stage”, according to a memo sent to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The warning comes as the US reduces staffing at several Middle Eastern embassies and amid speculation about possible renewed strikes on Iran.

The memo says Iran has increased efforts to target US personnel in the Middle East and other countries. Three US officials said the embassy drawdowns in Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are linked to threats from Iran and Yemen’s Houthi rebels; staff in those countries have not been ordered to leave. Brent crude rose 2.68 per cent to $111.74 a barrel amid reports of possible US and Israeli attack plans, though US officials deny the staffing changes are tied to plans for strikes.
