Speaking on Dan Dakich's "Don't @ Me" show, Fox Sports analyst Chris Broussard argued that Team USA's heavy World Cup defeat to Belgium laid bare the distance still separating the United States men's side from world football's leading nations. The comments matter because they feed a wider debate, prominent in the coverage, over whether the USMNT has actually progressed over the past decade despite hosting the 2026 tournament.
Although the headline focuses on football, most of the interview ranged across the NBA. Broussard discussed the Boston Celtics' decision to trade Jaylen Brown to the 76ers, saying it was analytics-driven: despite Brown's All-Star accolades, his career plus-minus ranks poorly and the numbers suggest the team could improve without him. Broussard also predicted that LeBron James will finish his career back home with the Cleveland Cavaliers, citing a personal connection in their front office and the club's chance of winning the Eastern Conference.
- Broussard says Belgium loss exposed USMNT's gap with football's elite.
- He calls the Celtics' Jaylen Brown trade an analytics-driven move.
- He predicts LeBron James will end his career in Cleveland.
