Chris Hansen Buys Ads Before Every Screening of A24’s ‘Primetime’ (Exclusive)
Chris Hansen has bought pre-show advertising before every cinema screening of A24’s forthcoming film Primetime, in which Robert Pattinson portrays him. The campaign directs audiences to Hansen’s TruBlu streaming service and takes advantage of renewed interest in his televised predator investigations, while he reportedly considers legal options after the film’s release.
The advert shows Hansen in a kitchen, echoing his familiar confrontation style and promoting TruBlu’s undercover investigations and true-crime programmes through a QR code. Primetime, directed by Lance Oppenheim, opens on 25 September after premiering at Venice on 5 September and is based on an Esquire article about the suicide of Texas prosecutor Bill Conradt following a televised sting operation. Hansen has said he declined to view the film because A24 required an agreement preventing legal action, and a proposed advert line calling the film a “Hollywood fantasy version” was removed over concerns about A24’s response.
