Chris Hansen has bought adverts to run before every cinema screening of A24’s forthcoming film Primetime, apparently seeking to present his own work to audiences before Robert Pattinson portrays a fictionalised version of him. The move highlights Hansen’s unease about the film, which examines the production of NBC’s To Catch a Predator and could revive debate about the programme’s social impact.
Primetime, directed by Lance Oppenheim, is set in 2006 and stars Pattinson as Hansen alongside Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo and Phoebe Bridgers. Hansen has not seen the film because A24 reportedly required him to waive potential legal action for an early screening; he is said to be consulting lawyers, while promoting his independent TruBlu streaming network. The film is due in cinemas on 25 September.
