## Key points

- Royal Mail’s five Christmas stamps depict Nativity scenes.
- The collection marks the 60th anniversary of Christmas stamps.
- Gareth Howat and Rebecca Sutherland created the designs.

## Summary

Royal Mail has unveiled a set of five Christmas stamps depicting scenes from the Nativity, including Mary and Joseph travelling, the birth of Jesus, an angel, shepherds and the Three Wise Men. The collection marks 60 years since the first Christmas special stamps were issued.

Graphic designer Gareth Howat and illustrator Rebecca Sutherland created the designs together. Sutherland said illustrating the stamps was a special honour, having collected stamps since childhood; the first Christmas collection appeared in December 1966 after a children’s art competition proposed by then-postmaster Tony Benn.
