## Key points

- Kevin Lewis’s new film blends Christmas comedy with horror.
- The cast improvised and helped shape its humour.
- Its emotional thread focuses on family and being present.

## Summary

Kevin Lewis says making *Christmas at the Kringles* brought him unexpected joy, as he directed a comedy-horror film with a cast known for comic performances. The film follows a family whose new neighbour’s intense devotion to Christmas hides sinister intentions, mixing humour and horror in a way Lewis says is closer to *Beetlejuice* than graphic horror.

The film stars Ron Livingston, Rachel Bilson, Rob Riggle, Thomas Lennon, Donald Faison, David Wain and Beverly D’Angelo, and was written by Zack Imbrogno. Lewis says the actors improvised and varied their performances between takes, while he shaped the final tone in editing. He was also drawn to the story’s father-and-son theme about being present and appreciating the moment.
