Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is projected to pass $400 million at the North American box office during its third weekend, overtaking Oppenheimer and surpassing the domestic total of Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. The result underlines the film’s unusually strong momentum despite the arrival of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a major competing release featuring several of its cast members.

The film has earned more than $700 million worldwide in two weeks and could exceed Inception’s $830 million global total over the weekend. It reportedly cost $250 million to produce, took about $15 million on its third Friday and is forecast to add more than $50 million over the weekend; it also holds 94% from critics and 97% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
