Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has exceeded $1 billion globally after three weeks in cinemas, becoming his first film to reach that mark since The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. The result underlines the continuing commercial appeal of large-scale theatrical releases, particularly those made for premium cinema formats.

The film has earned $429.65 million in the United States and Canada and $578.8 million internationally, for a reported total of $1.008 billion. It opened with $264 million, fell only 19% in its second weekend, and has generated $257 million from IMAX screenings; it is expected soon to surpass The Dark Knight Rises’ $1.08 billion total and become Nolan’s highest-grossing film.
