## Summary

CIA contractor Ian Brinksman has been charged with unlawfully transmitting national defence information after allegedly sharing classified reports with a woman he was dating, who published material on Substack. Prosecutors say he used his intelligence access to help her journalism career; the case highlights the risks of unauthorised disclosures of sensitive information.

Brinksman, 42, was arrested on Friday after authorities searched his Washington home. He had held top-secret clearance, including access to Sensitive Compartmented Information, and had worked for a government agency and its contractor since 2020. Officials have not identified the journalist; the article says she appears to be independent writer Aída Chávez, whose 2026 posts allegedly contain details matching the FBI affidavit. Brinksman faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
