The Grade II listed Abbeydale Picture House in Sheffield, which closed more than two years ago, has been removed from the Theatres Trust's risk register and is described as "no longer at risk of permanent closure". The change follows its purchase by independent brewery and hospitality firm True North Brew Co, which plans to convert the building into a "premier entertainment venue", though the Trust cautioned the venue is "not completely out of the woods".

Opened in 1920, the Abbeydale was Sheffield's largest cinema at the time, seating 1,560 people, and work is now progressing on its auditorium. The Theatres Trust's risk register currently features 39 UK venues, including Doncaster's Grand Theatre, and highlights culturally significant theatres threatened by closure, redevelopment or decay. Chief executive Joshua McTaggart attributed such risks to a "perfect storm" of declining income, rising costs and a lack of long-term investment, noting that more than 80 theatres have been restored since the register launched in 2006.
