California has awarded tax credits to nine new television productions, including a "Clueless" sequel series with Alicia Silverstone reprising her role as Cher Horowitz and a "Rockford Files" reboot starring David Boreanaz, under the state's Film and Television Tax Credit Program. Governor Gavin Newsom's office said the projects will generate a combined $608 million in direct production spending and 1,014 filming days, underscoring the state's efforts to keep television production local amid competition from other regions and countries offering their own incentives.

The "Clueless" update, produced by CBS Studios for Paramount+, received a $16 million estimated credit, while Universal Television's "Rockford Files" reboot secured $21 million; Universal is also behind Jamie Lee Curtis's "Newlyweds" ($5.8 million). Other recipients include Viola Davis's "Ascent" ($21 million), "Love Comes Softly" ($7.3 million), "SWAT Exiles" ($16 million), a new Amazon comedy ($11.6 million), an unnamed Disney Entertainment Television series that received the largest credit at $45 million, and a Netflix animated series awarded $1.2 million after animation recently became eligible for the scheme. Officials noted the programme's first year covered 170 projects worth $6.6 billion in spending, with applications up 82% year-on-year.
