CNN commentator Van Jones celebrated Democratic gains during live US midterm election coverage, saying he was happy that Donald Trump was miserable. His remarks drew a visible reaction from Republican panelist Scott Jennings and prompted host Kasie Hunt to point out that the panel would continue discussing Trump. The exchange reflected the sharp partisan mood surrounding the election results.

Jones cited several historic Democratic wins, including Chris Pappas becoming the first openly gay man in the Senate and Juliana Stratton becoming Illinois’s first Black female senator.
