Chris Martin honoured John Farnham during a sold-out Melbourne tribute concert by performing a new song remotely on acoustic guitar. The heartfelt, self-deprecating song praised Farnham’s voice and legacy while also recalling the late cricketer Shane Warne, highlighting Farnham’s enduring importance to Australian music.

More than 120 performers took part in the event, including Vanessa Amorosi, Tina Arena, Jimmy Barnes, Keith Urban and Mark Vincent, while Celine Dion and Hugh Jackman appeared remotely. Farnham could not attend because of deteriorating health; the concert raised awareness and funds for Head and Neck Cancer Australia and was screened in HOYTS cinemas, attracting more than 23,000 tickets. Farnham’s 1986 album *Whispering Jack* remains Australia’s best-selling domestic record.
