## Key points

- Parents are pressing Jeffco over locker-room access and the volleyball roster.
- The district reportedly directs objecting athletes to private changing spaces.
- Families allege players faced threats of being benched after discussing the dispute.

## Summary

Parents of girls on the Dakota Ridge High School volleyball teams are challenging Jefferson County Public Schools over a transgender player’s place on the junior varsity roster and access to the girls’ locker room. They say the district’s response has left female athletes with the burden of finding another place to change, and have raised concerns about secrecy and possible retaliation against players who discuss the dispute.

The article reports that more than 35 female athletes were cut from the programme, including the daughters of some outspoken parents. An internal email dated 6 October allegedly shows the athletic director warning district leaders that the situation had been anticipated. Parents also allege that coach Matthew Zeman threatened to bench two players after they discussed the matter; the district’s stated accommodation, according to the article, is to direct uncomfortable students to private changing spaces elsewhere in the building.
