## Summary

A Lakewood police officer was killed and three others were wounded when a suspect opened fire near a bus outside Denver on Thursday evening. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said state police were assisting at the scene and taking part in a procession honouring the officer.

Officers had responded at about 6.30pm to a report of a suspicious person near Colfax Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard, where they found the suspect trying to board a Regional Transportation District bus. Police said the suspect fired within seconds of their approach; officers shot the suspect, who died at the scene.
