A crowd of around 500 teenagers overran a King Soopers grocery store in Aurora, Colorado, on Sunday afternoon, causing damage and stealing goods before dispersing to nearby businesses, including a Burger King, where similar disruption occurred. The incident, which police say began as a social media-organised, unpermitted sporting event, escalated into what Aurora's police chief called a "significant public safety issue," prompting a large emergency response and renewed concern among residents about disorder in the city.

Aurora Police deployed roughly 70 officers to restore order, a deployment that took several hours and diverted resources from other calls across the city. Footage showed teenagers aged 14 to 17 running through aisles, throwing food and carrying off stolen items, with one employee describing the scene as "like a nightmare." Police Chief Todd Chamberlain said officers would use available tools to identify those involved in criminal conduct and urged parents to monitor their children's whereabouts and social media activity, while King Soopers said it was "extremely disappointed" but praised the swift police response and its staff's composure.
